Welcome to
Salmon Arm & Area

Salmon Arm is located on the Trans Canada Hwy halfway between Vancouver and Calgary at the northern gateway of the Okanagan Valley.

With a population of 15,000 and a trading area of 40,000, Salmon Arm is one of the fastest growing areas in British Columbia.

Dedicated teachers work at the numerous schools from elementary to Okanagan University College. Recently, completion of a state of the art senior high school, twin sheet ice arena, 4 screen movie complex & RCMP detachment have added to the growing economy of Salmon Arm. The indoor pool and spa at the recreation center and public auditorium add to the possibilities of family fun and fitness.

The clear waters of Shuswap Lake offer over 1,000km of pristine shoreline. This makes it ideal for luxury lake cruising in a houseboat, or just spending time at one of the many beaches. The scenic wharf located in the downtown core, together with its nature trails make it an ideal site for bird watching. The beaches, numerous provincial parks, championship golf courses, mountains for hiking and skiing make the Shuswap area an ideal place to live and visit.

Our hospital and care facilities provide emergency/outpatient, surgery, x-ray, pediatrics, physiotherapy and occupational therapy, psychiatric counseling, lab facilities, obstetrics as well as intensive care units. Staffed by 200 employees, the hospital is a modern, highly reputable facility.

The Salmon Arm economy is closely linked to forestry. Federated Co-op, a plywood plant employs 130 workers while 150 work in various sawmills, planer mills, and maintenance and shipping departments. Reforestation is a prime concern with approximately 1 million seedlings planted annually.

The Shuswap has a manufacturing industry ranging from building log homes to wine and cheese production, houseboat construction to producing rubber mats which were used in the Olympics in Atlanta. CAE Newnes is a technology fabricating plant selling its lumber processing machinery and metal fabrications throughout the world.

Agriculture also plays an important part in Salmon Arms economy with dairy farming being the most significant. Fruit growing is also a well know part of the Shuswap giving locals and tourists the opportunity to pick their own fruit, or buy it at any of the local fruit stands to enjoy a taste of the Shuswap.
